PWG: Threemendous III DVD Review

Date: July 21st, 2012

Champions: PWG World Champion - Kevin Steen

PWG World Tag Team Champions - Super Smash Bros

Commentary: Excalibur, Chuck Taylor, Joey Ryan, & Kevin Steen

1) Famous B vs. Joey Ryan

Decent opening match, but not anything special. They hit some cool moves and had a pretty good exchange near the end, other than that this was an average match. Both of these guys are really good in the ring, so I expected better than this, but it's not a big deal as it was fairly short. These two didn't mesh very well together, but it's a solid contest, nothing overly bad.

Match rating - **1/4

2) TJ Perkins vs. Roderick Strong

We go from an opener that was decent at the most, to an outstanding technical wrestling match here between Perkins and Strong. These guys went move for move in a near 15 minute bout that was extremely fun to watch. I expected this to be really good, but these guys exceeded my expectations and produced an awesome match.

Match rating - ***1/2

3) Fightin Taylor Boys (Chuck Taylor & Ryan Taylor) vs. RockNES Monsters

These two teams had an awesome match at Steen Wolf, except Brian Cage was representing the Taylor boys with Ryan instead of Chuck.

Needless to say this was a great tag team match even though it wasn't as awesome as their previous bout at Steen Wolf. The crowd was hot for Chuck Taylor throughout. He definitely impressed. The Rocknes Monsters played the heels in this match which was a nice change of pace and honestly added to the match.

Match rating - ***1/2

4) Brian Cage vs. Eddie Edwards

One phrase can describe this match - Brian Cage is a fucking machine. The guy is such a powerhouse who reminds me alot of Claudio (Cesaro in WWE). He's one of the strongest guys in PWG and uses that to his advantage in most matches including this one. Edwards hung right in there with Cage though and put in a solid performance. Another really good match here between these guys.

Match rating - ***1/4

5) Kevin Steen vs. Willie Mack - PWG World Championship Title Match

And here comes the good shit! Steen attacked Mack before he could even get to the ring and the two brawled around the ring for the first several minutes of the match. Steen slammed Mack back first on the apron several times and delivered a pretty brutal beating on him. Steen let Mack know early on that if he wanted to be World Champion, he was gonna have to earn it. The most insane moment of this match had to be Steen slinging Mack into the corner and moving the ring! It was crazy! I'm making it sound like this match was all Steen, but trust me it wasn't. Willie took it to Steen with some hard hitting offense in a great back and forth match. Steen and Willie tore the house down.

Match rating - ***3/4

6) B-Boy vs. Drake Younger

This match pits a PWG veteran and local wrestler, B-Boy against the PWG debutee, Drake Younger. With this being Younger's debut in PWG, the crowd was mainly behind B-Boy since he's well known there, but Younger sooned gained the fans respect. Going into this match, I expected it to be pretty good, but had no idea that these guys would tear the fucking roof off this place like they did. I didn't know if they would be able to follow Steen vs. Mack, but damn if they didn't put on a match that was even more awesome! The physicality of this match was unbelievable. Younger and B Boy literally beat the hell out of each other. Awesome match with loads of near falls, loved it!

Match rating - ****1/2

7) Sami Callihan vs. Michael Elgin

Speaking of hard hitting matches, we got another one here as Callihan and Elgin put on an awesome match. It started off with a bang as Callihan kicked Elgin and delivered a back drop driver to him. I expected this one to be outstanding and it really was. Elgin is another guy who is strong as hell and has unbelievable strength. It's showcased here on numerous occasions as he moved Callihan around like he was a light weight when Callihan is the complete opposite. Great back and forth match.

Match rating - ***3/4

8) Super Smash Brothers vs. Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly vs. The Young Bucks - Ladder Match for the PWG World Tag Team Championships

Kevin Steen stated exactly what was on my mind before this match started by saying he was worried about the fans during this match. If you've never seen PWG, there aren't any railings or barricades, so the fans are basically right at the ring apron. The worry myself and Steen had came to fruition early on as one of the Bucks got thrown off the apron into the crowd. The thing about PWG audiences is they eat it up! Most fans would be mad, these fans love the fact that they are on top of all the action. Speaking of action, this one was packed slam full of it as these guys started off in high gear, slinging chairs at each other all around ringside. So many spots in this match that I can't even begin to list them all. You just need to see this for yourself. Tables and chairs played a huge part in this as well as ladders. Amazing match that definitely deserved the main event spot. This one is a MUST SEE. I'm going the full five because the atmosphere, the action, AND the storytelling was here. You had crazy spots, but also had storyline progression and callbacks between Rick Knox & The Young Bucks. This was pretty much perfect.

Match rating - *****

Overall thoughts: Another awesome show from PWG. It started off rocky with the rather boring Ryan/B match, but soon picked up as Strong & Perkins delivered an amazing technical showcase. We got a very good tag team match from the Taylor Boys and Rocknes Monsters that had a nice twist at the end. Cage and Edwards put in a solid performance. Then we get a string of hardhitting, physical matches starting with Steen and Mack who fought like hell for the PWG Title. After this, B-Boy and Younger beat the shit out of each other in one of my favorite matches of the night. Callihan and Elgin put on a great match up as expected and the Three-way Tag Team Ladder Match Main Event was absolutely insane and stole the show. So I'd definitely recommend buying this awesome event!
