PWG: TEN Review

This event was held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Pro Wrestling Guerilla. The company started in 2003 and has grown to become one of the best wrestling companies in the world. This event featured veterans and newcomers alike along with match stipulations which the promotion has become known for including a three way Guerilla WarFare Match between Kevin Steen, Drake Younger, and Adam Cole for the PWG World Championship. The main event of this show is a Three Way Tag Team Ladder Match between The Young Bucks, Ricochet & Rich Swann, and Eddie Edwards & Roderick Strong for the World Tag Team Championships!

1) B-Boy, Candice LeRae, and Willie Mack vs. Peter Avalon, Joey Ryan, and Ryan Taylor
Over the years, PWG has become known for awesome six man tag openers so what better way to open the tenth anniversary show than with one of those fast paced six man tags! This lived up to expectations as it was packed with tons of action and spots. It honestly may be my favorite PWG opening match ever. I'm a big fan of Candice along with B-Boy and Willie Mack so that team was the obvious favorite for me. The action wasn't the only thing that made this match awesome, it also featured a surprise run in by a PWG veteran. During the match Ryan Taylor was on the outside with Candice LeRae when a fan started helping her up. Taylor gave him an elbow to the face which totally shocked me. I was like "he just hit a fucking fan!" Come to find out that "fan" was Scott Lost! After he recovered he caught Taylor on the apron and delivered an Ace Crusher! Crazy stuff! Surprises, tons of dives, ballplexes, and tittyplexes - this was just plain awesome!

2) Brian Cage vs. Anthony Nese

This was Nese's debut in PWG and also my first time seeing him compete. Although it was my first time seeing Nese, I was immediately impressed. Nese's first opponent is a guy who's been in PWG for a few years, Brian Cage. Nese and Cage are actually kind of similar. For two guys who are on the more muscular side, they are both very agile. The styles meshed well together and they put on a fun match with some great wrestling. I really enjoyed this one even though many people have shat on it.

3) Forever Hooligans vs. RockNES Monsters
Alex Koslov and Rocky Romero (Forever Hooligans) were making their return to PWG here. Romero is a PWG veteran as he was on the first ever show. Koslov was also with the company during it's early years. The RockNES Monsters joined the company in 2011 so this was kind of like a veteran team vs. rookie team match up. It was a good tag team bout with some solid action. It wasn't one of those balls to the wall PWG tag matches, but it's what I like to call your typical PWG match which is always good.

4) Michael Elgin vs. AR Fox
Here we have two current faces of PWG facing off in a singles bout. Most people thought Elgin would dominate the match because of his power, but Fox found a way to be on top for the majority of the match. Both men put in one hell of an effort here and it paid off as they produced a great match. Though they are polar opposites in the ring, the highflying and powerhouse styles meshed extremely well here. Great match!

5) Johnny Gargano & Chuck Taylor vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick
Gargano is a new face to PWG as he debuted a few months prior to this while Chuck Taylor has been around for a few years. As for London and Kendrick, they've both competed for PWG off and on over the years so it was nice to see them back for the 10th Anniversary show. I've always loved watching London and Kendrick compete, but their goofiness sometimes gets on my nerves. Such as London slapping Gargano with a glove and challenging him to a "duel" in the middle of the match. Just unnecessary, repetitive (did in previous PWG matches) stuff in my opinion. I'm not opposed to comedy as I find Chuck Taylor hilarious. I just don't think the stuff London does is as funny especially when I've seen it done multiple times. None the less, the action was really good in this match. Alot of highflying and some cool counter manuevers. The opening comedy spot ruled as well. Very enjoyable match.

6) Kyle O'Reilly vs. TJ Perkins
As a fan of both of these men, I was very excited for this match. Perkins is a veteran in PWG as he's been in the company since its early years while Kyle is a newer face in the company, debuting in 2011. Despite their differences in experience, they have very similar styles. Perkins is skilled in technical wrestling and highflying while Kyle is skilled technical and submission wrestling with a touch of MMA/Jui Jitsu in his style. These guys went at it on the mat right from the start with some great catch wrestling. After several minutes of amazing technical wrestling, shit got real so to speak as the two began trading strikes. Didn't think Perkins would fare well striking against O'Reilly, but he held his own. The two men also targeted the two body parts that are important to their individual offensive styles. Kyle targeted TJ's arm and TJ targeted Kyle's leg throughout the match. I love the way this match was executed. If you're a fan of technical or submission you'll love this one. Just an incredible match.

7) Adam Cole vs. Kevin Steen vs. Drake Younger - Guerilla Warfare Match for the PWG World Championship
This was your typical Guerilla Warfare Match. Just a really fun hardcore match. Nothing as brutal as the Callihan/Younger war from a few months ago though. Thankfully there were no staple guns used here. This was pretty brutal however. Various chair pyramid and table spots. Cole gave Younger a sick Canadian Destroyer (piledriver) onto a table, Kevin gave Younger a package piledriver through some chairs, and all kinds of shit like that. The most breathtaking spot however was the top rope brain buster that Steen delivered to Cole. HOLY SHIT! That was scary. I have no idea how Cole didn't break his neck. Instead of falling back in the ring he nailed his head on the turnbuckle and fell out into the crowd to the floor. Wow! Amazing match.

8) The Young Bucks vs. Dojo Bros vs. Inner City Machine Guns - Ladder Match for the PWG World Tag Team Championships
Just as you would expect, this was complete insanity. So much death defying shit packed into one match. I can't even begin to name all the amazing spots that took place in this match. It was just so crazy! I could sit here and try to list all the spots that happened, but the truth is - there were so many that I can't remember them all! The most jaw dropping exchange was Ricochet diving through a ladder and over the ring post and another ladder to the outside followed by one of The Bucks powerbombing Rich Swann off said ladder through a table. This was pure craziness. I know this a short review for such an awesome match, but I don't know what else to say.. must see match!
